The Link to Brooklyn

No, you are not going to Brooklyn, you are confined to the region of Manhattan only.

Lower Manhattan

It was an impossibly cold day, but I needed to get some fresh air and ran out at lunch time knowing I wouldn't go far.  Across the street from my office is the red cube sculpture plaza and as I crossed the street approaching it, for the first time, I noticed that from a low angle, the "Lower Manhattan" garbage box provided a well placed title for the area and looked nice next to the cube.  Getting the angle I wanted required that I stand just off the curb in the street.

I stood there and waited for people to work their way through the shot.  I intended to just keep sucking in the characters who went by but was waiting for the perfect shot.  After shooting for about five minutes and grabbing the shots below (and many more), a large Poland Spring water truck came by and honked me.  He wanted to park exactly where I was standing.  My perfect angle was taken from me and I went back inside.

Here are the highlights of what I got presented with some post-production variations.

Oversight

An architectural look at two buildings.  The building on the left is the primary building on Chase Manhattan Plaza, the building on the right is the Federal Reserve building.  Chase overviews the street, the Fed provides oversight to Chase.

Inspection?

First I thought this gentleman was a scavenger, but he then took his cane and stuck it into the garbage as if he was measuring its contents.  Looking closely at his raincoat shows he is an official working for the "City of New York".   I don't know why.

Public Personal Call

I had some trouble thinking about the purpose of this picture.  Originally, I was focused on the guy who was using the phoneless public phone booth for a cell phone call.  He was positioning his leg in unusual positions (see the second shot).  Then the girl went by and I caught her in the other booth.  There is his gaze that way, kind of making it a pickup type of thing.  I thought the U-Haul truck could add some kind of angle.  But, in the end I came up blank and leave it to others to figure out.

Bad News

The gentleman in the center reminded me a bit of FDR.  I didn't notice the duck until I got home, otherwise I would have featured it in the shot a bit more.
