Freak Show

Some weird shadows along Broadway that provided some interesting lighting to this businessman.  I kind of like that the bus had the Freak Show advertisement.  Seems odd that in the first photo, he is lit only on the right side, but the second he is lit only at the bottom.

I had never noticed this building from the corner angle.  If Harry Potter's school was in the middle of New York City, I suspect Hogwarts would look something like this.

Pacing within the Light

A rather crisp day with dramatic light created simple strips of heat.  This guy paced back and forth and he continued with his urgent phone call.  He only walked within the band of light.  Back and forth, back and forth.

Besides the dotted building in the rear, and the windows of the nearer structures.  There are dotted reflections of light off the opposite buildings.  Someone asked if this is real.  Yup.

Backlit from the Front

I find this light a curiosity.  If you look closely, you will see the light is coming from the direction of the building.  So, that means it has been reflected so strongly that it is bouncing towards the people.

Spines

The World Trade Center Transportation Hub that is under construction has slowly been assembled.  The ultimate design which you can see in this link, looks somewhat like a giant bird with needle spines making up the wings.

With a little bit of movement, half standing in the street, a new juxtaposition becomes possible.

The new train station will serve as a hub for multiple subway lines.  I walked past what they were building every day but I didn't imagine the inner dome would look like this.

As we approach the winter and the days get shorter, the light gets more brilliant.  There are reflections off the buildings and since the sun is lower, blinding light as you walk down the street.

Zipper Signs

Now many of the street carts have rotating "Times Square" type zipper signs.  They rotate around and try to get you to buy the items in the words.  Some of them don't make much sense when you take them one word at a time.  I waited for words to appear.

I'm not sure they have programmed into their sign the word "Closed" though.

This one is fairly reasonable, but a bit redundant.  I think we all know they have Hot Dogs.  It's pretty clear.

Time Travel

Sometimes in the modern world there is a flashback to another time.  This reminds me of my father commuting on the train during his working days.  I remember being fascinated when he told me that the subway was in a tunnel underneath the ground.  What do you see out the windows?  Mostly nothing was his answer.

They could have been looking at the One World Trade Center which is across the street the other way.  But, I'm not quite sure is over this direction.  If you include the guy in the back, they are all looking in slightly different directions.  But, all with curiosity.

The bad weather is starting.  I always liked this block and the geometric lines.  It is especially interesting when the fog rolls in.

I guess striking in front of the New York Stock Exchange can get you some attention.  I'm not sure what the gripe is here, but these FedEx pilots were none too happy.  I've seen strikers before, but none as stern as this group.
